After Google, Yahoo enters, WA @ Factoria

January 13, 2006

My insiders tell me that Yahoo! is opening a Development Center @ Factoria,WA. Well, I am wondering if the web-services action is shifting from Valley to the Northwest. Oho! well this will send someone sleepless in Seattle ūüėČ

Microsoft adLabs Mantra-Shop Live, Don’t Search!

January 13, 2006

Microsoft quietly announced the progress it has made in search and digital advertising fields by announcing its adCenter. I am still skeptical about Microsoft narrowing the gap significantly with Google¬†in search technology. However, from June-2006, Microsoft’s contract with Yahoo/Overture for advertising on MSN network will expire and MSN will part ways with Yahoo. Also note Microsoft’s fiscal year ends in June.

If Multimedia(Audio, Video, Gaming, et. al) applications are set to rule the web, then looking at today’s announcement from an insider’s perspective,¬†I see terrific potential for the passionate :-P.¬†Microsoft is sitting on a stack of Multimedia Streaming and Advertising patents. NO NO! They don’t mention the patents are for advertising but they do mention embeding URIs in Multimedia. Check out their patent list here.

I am crazy about Tennis and right from my teens have always changed the¬†racket¬†when¬†Andre Agassi did. With Microsoft’s adLabs technology,¬†I don’t have to go on searching which racket is Agassi using now. While watching US Open live, I can shop for it with few clicks. Check out this exclusive presentation.¬†With one click you will enable the embedded URI’s in the image and on second click you are ready to add to cart ūüôā You can¬†shop for your just about anything that you watch. Shop Live, Don’t¬†“SEARCH” ;-). Can you imagine the potential market ?

InternetOutsider, Henry in his blog claims that Microsoft has lost¬†the web war, but do you really think it has ? MSFT might have lost the war on two fronts, Search & Tools. But while Google Talks and settles it’s VoIP patent lawsuit, and then tries to mature it’s flaky Google Video Player, Microsoft with it’s¬†best¬†player would have delivered.

Bill where are the tools for Web 2.0 ?

January 13, 2006

Bill proudly claims that MSFT is all about providing tools, server equals services, etc. But till now I have not seen a single best blogger on Microsoft platform. Almost all of them are on blogs supported by open source technologies. Sure you have your MSN Spaces. Isn’t the web about open standards ? Where is the killer photo sharing web-services ? Sily check out flickr. Oho! I thought their was MSN Photos, apparently not ūüė¶

Is Bill watching the companies and partnerships that Yahoo has been doing ? It would be interesting to see Ballmer’s reaction ūüėČ

Get search results as you type…

January 13, 2006

Matt seems to be doing a terrific job in fixing bugs and adding new features as requested by customers. Thanks Matt. What’s cool about blogging is, you get search results as you type in the search box. AJAX ? I tried a sample on WordPress’ CEO designate and here is the screen shot of the same. This feature is not seen on the king of searchblogs ūüėČ
Wordpress search is cool

GOOG $2000 or $100, check out…

January 12, 2006

As I was reading Henry Blodget’s post on the Google’s bear, someone said that Henry just copied this from For the stock to hit $100,¬†their earnings should fall back to $0.50, which doesn’t seem to be possible. However, technically speaking a correction in the stock is long overdue and should happen anytime soon.

Allright, as said earlier, I am still very concerned by the huge amount of stocks, GOOG insiders are liquidating, this is abnormally high. GOOG has 1/10th the number of employees and 1/8th the revenues of Microsoft but Googlers including Larry and Sergey have liquidated $4.3 billion in stocks in 2005 compared to $2.2 billion by Microsofties. The least liquidation comes from Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft. Check out for other pranks by Google.

Chinese copy machine duplicates Indian Bike

January 11, 2006

IndiaTimes is reporting that a Chinese company has duplicated Bajaj-Pulsar, an Indian Motor Bike and is selling them in Latin America under the brand, Gulsar. India is the larget manufacturer of MotorBikes in the world. It is now becoming apparent that upto half of Chinese manufacturing facilities don’t respect IP rights and hence can claim to be a low cost manufacturer in the world. Earlier I reported that Huawei, a major telecom giant has violtaed laws in almost all the countries. Uncle Sam prefers to be a silent observer while China takesover the American economy, can India afford to sit quiet ? Can Rahul Bajaj make his case and win against China ? Looking at Rahul’s track record, he was protected by various Indian governments for over 20 years before liberalisation and he surely lacks the acumen of a global businessman.

Intel IDC designed major chunk of Intel Centrino Duo aka – Yonah

January 11, 2006

EETimes UK and Hindu Business Line are reporting that, Intel’s next genration centrino processor, which is claimed to be optimized in power consumption and belived to have higher throughput with dual core¬†was partly designed in their India Development Center. My insiders tell me that, it was not partly but a significant chunk of the development came form their IDC in Bangalore. However, half of the core technical staff in the IDC – Yonah project have worked previously in the United States.

Bloggers rant, CES a disappointment ?

January 10, 2006

Thanks to Prof. Word(Unfortunately he doesn’t blog) who taught me everything about the¬†Embedded¬†world and didn’t hesitate to call Microsoft’s embedded initiative¬†an oxymoron. Check out my previous posts on Google and Microsoft which elaborated that they didn’t really focus on the CES topics.¬†The media pampered GYM; Well they were keynote speakers, can’t help it. Om points out that the show really shyed away serious innovators in the embedded arena and might face the same fate as COMDEX. Gaming-360, PS3Countdown calls it a major disappointment…. Lets hope that in future CES reviews keynote presenters products before they disappoint their audience.
